2022 Benevolent Dictator Pinot Noir Russian River Valley

Our 2022 vintage of the Benevolent Dictator is a classic expression of Russian River Pinot Noir. With each swirl, bright aromas of black cherry and ripe strawberry intermingle with the scent of cola and baking spices. 2022 Vintage
Ask any winemaker in Napa or Sonoma, and you’ll hear about the optimism we all shared for the 2022 vintage. Even though we had almost no rain in January or February,  the drought did have an impact on the vines. The growing season started out as expected. We had an even (although early) budbreak, bloom and veraison. The clusters were ripening at a leisurely pace with no exceptional heat spikes until we approached Labor Day weekend. And while we often see extreme heat as September approaches, this was one for the record books. Significant heat for a long period of time was then alleviated by some rain which put harvest on hold for a few days and slowed down the ripening process. We returned to seasonal weather, and we were able to hang the grapes a little longer and pick at ideal ripeness.

Tasting Notes
The dark garnet color hints at the future of this Russian River beauty. While it is slightly reserved and a bit shy at this young age, you’ll find plenty of black cherry aromas layered with bright summer fruit notes, then some cola and spice will start to peek through with another swirl or two. Lush deep
